Everyone knew it was a bad idea when the Atlanta Falcons signed Kirk Cousins to a four-year deal worth $180 million earlier this year. It was an even worse idea when they gave Cousins all of that money only to spend their top-10 draft pick on a quarterback, selecting Michael Penix Jr. out of Washington with the eighth pick in the draft.

Why are we talking about the Falcons quarterback drama on a Tampa Bay Buccaneers site? Well, because it's fun to laugh at the Falcons. Also, after Cousins' four-interception game against the Chargers this past weekend, the calls for Penix to start at quarterback in Atlanta are growing louder and Bucs fans can't stop laughing at the drama that's unfolding there.

While Falcons head coach Raheem Morris clarified that Cousins is still the quarterback in Atlanta, the fact that this is even a discussion means that Cousins' job isn't as safe as he might want it to be. Another poor performance from the long-time NFL veteran quarterback and he might be watching his backup jump him on the depth chart for the final month of the season.

Bucs fans are enjoying the QB drama in Atlanta

While we'd probably be laughing at this either way, it's even more important right now because the Buccaneers and the Falcons are both 6-6 on the year. The Falcons own the tiebreaker after sweeping Tampa earlier in the season so the Bucs have to take care of business on their end by winning as many games as possible while hoping the Falcons stay at least one game behind them. If they finish with identical records, the advantage would go to Atlanta.

As of this writing, NFL Next Gen Stats has given the Falcons 57% odds of making the playoffs while the Bucs have 56% odds. With a win this weekend over the Raiders, the Bucs' chances of making the postseason would jump to 65% while a loss would drop them to 35%. If the Falcons beat the Vikings (Cousins' old team) in Week 14, their odds jump to 75% while a loss gives them a 48% chance of getting into the playoffs.

For the Bucs, winning and at least a few Falcons losses is what needs to happen for Tampa to clinch its fourth straight NFC South title. Getting in as a wild card team isn't impossible but the best route for both of these teams to make the playoffs is to win the division and only one can do that so let's hope it's the Bucs who come out victorious. If the quarterback drama can help out Tampa, then let the drama unfold.
