Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield is notorious for his competitive nature and for being one of the league’s best trash talkers.
The release of Netflix’s documentary series ‘Quarterback’ has put Mayfield’s brash personality on full display for the world to see, giving fans an unprecedented look at the Bucs quarterback.
Mayfield was captured trading trash talk with multiple opponents, but one former Buccaneer specifically took issue with his exchange with Eagles star cornerback Quinyon Mitchell.

LeSean McCoy shreds Baker Mayfield over Eagles trash talk
Mitchell approached Mayfield with some choice words during the Bucs’ Week 4 showdown against the Eagles last season.
“Who the f*** are you, anyway?” Mayfield fired back.
In the latest episode of Speakeasy, LeSean McCoy unloaded on Mayfield after seeing the viral clip.
LeSean McCoy goes off on Baker Mayfield for trash-talking Eagles CB Quinyon Mitchell. He says who is baker to talk like that. He’s an average or above average quarterback he can’t talk like that . He ain’t a Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson pic.twitter.com/9Eihg3RFFz

“Y’all blow people up like Baker Mayfield. Baker Mayfield has been above average for a very long time. Every once in a while, he has a really good year, and then people like y’all start talking about him,” said McCoy.
“The problem is when dudes are regular or above average, we want to hype them up… So now these dudes who aren’t on the same level hear y’all talking about them, and they think they can say something to Quinyon Mitchell like, ‘Who are you?’
“One dude is an All-Pro, one of the best at his position in the league. The other guy has never been that. And he gets a lot of, what do they call them? Alternate Pro Bowls.”
Obviously, Mayfield knows exactly who Mitchell is. He’s the Eagles top cornerback, and Mayfield spent the entire week studying film and preparing for Philadelphia’s defense.
It was nothing more than good-natured trash talk, something Mayfield even explained in the clip when he revealed that he borrowed the line from former NFL running back Arian Foster.
It’s a strange stance from McCoy, who seems to believe that Mayfield — an eight-year NFL vet who had led the Buccaneers to consecutive playoff appearances at the time — hasn't earned the right to engage in trash talk with an opponent.
If McCoy feels painfully off base and biased here, that’s because he is. It’s important to note that McCoy was drafted by Philadelphia and played six seasons for the Eagles.
He spent just one year in Tampa Bay, riding the bench en route to a Super Bowl victory while logging only 10 rush attempts all year. There’s no secret where his loyalties lie between Tampa Bay and Philadelphia, which explains his defensiveness.
Mayfield’s trash talk lights a fire and energizes the entire team, and it’s a key part of his personality on the football field. He needs to ignore the noise from outsiders like McCoy and keep being himself, because his fiery personality is what has made him so beloved as the quarterback of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
