The Tampa Bay Buccaneers recently parted ways with wide receiver Trey Palmer during roster cuts. Palmer had a promising start to his career, catching 39 passes for 385 yards and three touchdowns as a sixth-round rookie in 2023.

But last season, even in a wide receiver room ravaged by injuries, Palmer’s role shrunk significantly from his rookie season. He caught just 12 passes for 172 yards and two touchdowns.

The wide receiver room became even more crowded this offseason after the team drafted Emeka Egbuka in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Palmer became the odd man out and was released after the Buccaneers first shopped him on the trade block, to no avail

New Orleans Saints snatch Trey Palmer off waivers

After Palmer’s release from Tampa Bay, the NFC South rival Saints pounced to bring him to New Orleans.

The Saints are no stranger to Trey Palmer. In Week 17 of the 2023 season, Palmer had a breakout game against the Saints, catching four passes for 84 yards and a touchdown.

By adding Palmer, the Saints are quietly putting together one of the fastest wide receiver rooms in the league by pairing him with fellow speedsters Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed.

The Saints also added a more physical option in a trade with the Broncos, acquiring 6-foot-5 Deshaun Vele to add balance to the receiver room.

While the Saints aren’t expected to be a threat to contend in the NFC South in 2025, they are quietly building a potent wide receiver corps that could give opposing defenses fits. The Buccaneers secondary must be prepared for a battle in their two matchups against New Orleans in Weeks 8 and 14.
