A new report from Andrew Lind at SportsLogos.net claims that the Buccaneers will be breaking out a white throwback uniform to celebrate the franchise’s 50th season in 2025.
“According to multiple sources, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are set to unveil a white road version of their creamsicle throwback uniforms on July 15 as part of their 50th season celebration,” wrote Lind.
While it’s not immediately clear when Tampa Bay could wear these uniforms, two games immediately stand out as potential options.
The first opportunity could come in Week 3, when the Bucs host the New York Jets. While Lind’s report specifically refers to a “road throwback,” it’s important to note that in the franchise’s inaugural 1976 season, Tampa Bay wore all-white uniforms for both home and away games.
The game theme for the home-opener matchup is listed as “50th season,” one of the more vague promos on the schedule. That could be a subtle hint at a surprise white throwback debut, as those original uniforms were worn exclusively throughout the team’s first ever season.
The Bucs have already confirmed that they’ll wear their popular orange creamsicles in Week 15 against the Falcons on Thursday Night Football. But with another throwback uniform rumored and an anniversary to celebrate, Week 3 against the Jets feels like a prime candidate.
The second, and perhaps most likely option comes just a few weeks later in Week 5, when the Buccaneers travel to Seattle to face the Seahawks. The Seahawks also joined the NFL in 1976 alongside Tampa Bay–the two teams entered together as expansion franchises.
The Seahawks also boast their own iconic throwbacks that honor the team’s history. It would make a ton of sense for both teams to sport their throwbacks as they each celebrate their respective 50th seasons together.
The rumors surrounding the white throwbacks didn’t just surface out of thin air, there’s been buzz building throughout the entire offseason. But now, it seems like something tangible is on the horizon. With the 50th season officially here, there’s no better way to honor the franchise’s roots than by bringing back the look that started it all.
Hopefully, the team doesn’t play like the 1976 Buccaneers when the jerseys come on.
