The Tampa Bay Buccaneers left Seattle as winners of a thriller against the Seahawks but somehow, that wasn't even the main talking point from the game. That honor belongs to a viral clip of a Seahawks fan talking trash to Baker Mayfield before the game and Mayfield clapping right back at the fan.
While appearing on the Up & Adams Show, Lavonte David was asked about this moment and summed it up pretty perfectly. Kay Adams asked him what something like what the fan was doing does to Mayfield.
"Aw man, it fires him up, as you can see," David said. "Before the weekend even came, I was telling the young guys... there's going to be trash talk... don't pay 'em no mind, use it as fuel so you can go out there and dominate and come back and you know, shut 'em up and talk trash to 'em back. I didn't see that moment live, but when I did see it... I'm like, 'yeah that's what's up'."
Don’t poke the… Baker 👀

Lavonte David explains how trash talk impacts Baker Mayfield
David's reaction is pretty great because he claims he warned the team about Seahawks fans and then that exact scenario played out right before our eyes. The Seahawks fan talked smack, Mayfield and the Bucs then went onto the field and broke those fans' hearts in their own stadium, and he continued to make sure that fan felt the error of his ways after the fact by talking trash back to the fan after the game and posting about it on his Instagram.
The Buccaneers all got the last laugh this time around but it's a good reminder that the athletes hear the fans when they're yelling things in those moments. Sure, some guys might be better about tuning fans and the outside noise out but Mayfield has never and will never be one of those guys. He's animated and that's why we love him, isn't it?
Hopefully, opposing fans won't remember this lesson and will continue to chirp at Mayfield before games. That only helps the Buccaneers on the field so do us all a favor and keep talking that trash, other teams!
