Buccaneers accidentally reveal when throwback Creamsicle uniforms will be worn in 2024
By Josh Hill
We’re still a few days away from Tampa Bay Buccaneers training camp opening up, and about two months away from the regular season arriving, but we’re finally starting to get some news — albeit, accidentally.
Buried in a press release about a “Red Out” game — which is cool in its own right — the Bucs accidentally revealed the creamsicles are coming back on October 27th. Last year Tampa Bay wore their throwbacks against the Lions, an old NFC Central rival, but this time it’ll be a game against the Atlanta Falcons the creamsicles make their return.
If there was any doubt of the leak’s validity, the Bucs updated the press release to remove any mention of the creamsicles. While it’s not “official” yet, that pretty much confirms that the date was revealed by accident.
Buccaneers are bringing back their throwback ‘creamsicle’ uniforms in 2024
Most fans love when throwback uniforms return, but Buccaneers fans have a more prickly relationship with the creamsicles. They’ve reached a scars are cool phase of their lifecycle, but fans still can’t help but associate it with one of the darkest periods in franchise history.
The “Yuckaneers”, and 0-26 losing streak, and whatever in God’s name the 80s were, are all things closely linked to the creamsicles whenever fans catch a glimpse. It didn’t help that Tampa Bay started a 1-6 losing streak last season when the throwbacks made their first appearance since 2012, something fans were quick to point out as a reason to abolish them forever.
That’s simply not going to happen, but there’s a way to spice things up while still honoring the past.
Every time we’ve seen Tampa Bay’s throwbacks they’ve been the classic creamsicle/white combo, but there’s an arguement to be made to bring back the white throwback uniforms instead. The Bucs haven’t worn those since the early-90s, and they’re just as potentially clean from a vintage style standpoint as the creamsicles.
They also don’t carry as negative vibes as the creamsicles do, even if they were worn in the same time period.
Mostly, the Bucs have a chance to change things up and add in a new uniform combo we haven’t seen in a while. If nothing else, it offers a chance to sell more uniforms which might be motivation enough for the Glazer family to bring them back.
Either way, the creamsicles are coming back in 2024 and here’s to hoping the Bucs honor the past rather than echo it this time around.
