NFC South QB power rankings after final preseason game
By Ryan Heckman
The 2023 preseason is in the books, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are now shifting all of their focus to the regular season.
As the final 53-man roster comes into shape, fans are ready for what's next. The Bucs will take on the Minnesota Vikings in Week 1, just less than two weeks away at this point.
Before we get into some Week 1 talk, though, let's take a look at the NFC South after three weeks of preseason action. Where does each team's quarterback rank in comparison to the rest? Does Baker Mayfield find himself in the lower or upper half? Here we go.
4. Desmond Ridder, Falcons
Starting us off is Falcons second-year pro Desmond Ridder, who followed a strong 2022 preseason with a less-than-stellar 2023 preseason showing. In total, Ridder completed 7-of-9 passes for 80 yards, no touchdowns and an interception.
That interception came in the red zone, by the way. It was off a tipped ball, but to be fair, Ridder had running back Bijan Robinson open and didn't see him.
The Falcons could be in contention for a 2024 quarterback like Caleb Williams if Ridder struggles this year. The team moved on from Marcus Mariota while signing Taylor Heinicke to back up Ridder. There may be a time, this year, where we see Ridder head to the bench in favor of the more tenured veteran.
Atlanta can't be too confident in Ridder, that's for sure. Who knows, maybe Ridder surprises us. For now, though, he's coming in last on our divisional power rankings.
