The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are approaching the start of the 2026 regular season, and they’re staring down a gauntlet of a schedule.

Tampa Bay will face the NFC North and  AFC North, two divisions loaded with playoff contenders. They also face a difficult second-place schedule featuring the Los Angeles Rams, Los Angeles Chargers, and Dallas Cowboys.

In a slate jam-packed with difficult matchups, what are the five hardest games on the Buccaneers 2026 schedule?

Ranking the 5 hardest games on Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ 2026 schedule

5. Buccaneers @ Bengals

The Buccaneers kick off the season on the road against the Bengals in what could quietly be one of their toughest games of the year.

Tampa Bay’s secondary will immediately be tested by one of the NFL’s best wide receiver duos in Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, while Joe Burrow gives Cincinnati one of the league’s most dangerous quarterbacks.

The Bengals could also pose a serious challenge defensively after adding nose tackle Dexter Lawrence, defensive tackle Jonathan Allen, and safety Bryan Cook this offseason.

The Buccaneers will have their hands full to open the season against a Cincinnati team that could emerge as a dark horse Super Bowl contender.

4. Buccaneers vs. Chargers

The Chargers present a difficult challenge on both sides of the ball.

Justin Herbert is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, and he’s paired with one of the league’s best play callers in Mike McDaniel.  That duo will take advantage of the Bucs defense if they don’t come ready to play.

Los Angeles also boasts one of the league’s best defenses. The Chargers finished top-five in yards allowed last year in top-10 in points per game allowed.

The Bucs will have to play clean, mistake-free football if they want to win against one of the league’s most balanced and well-coached teams.

3. Buccaneers @ Lions

The Detroit Lions have a star-studded roster that makes this a difficult matchup, and playing them on the road in one of the NFL’s loudest stadiums only makes it tougher.

Tampa Bay’s young defense will have to deal with a Jared Goff-led offense that features Jahmyr Gibbs, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, and Sam LaPorta.

The Buccaneers will also have to contend with pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson on the other side of the ball, who recorded 4.5 sacks when these teams faced off in 2024.

It’ll be a crucial NFC matchup that could hold implications for playoff seeding, so the Bucs will have to bring their A-game to Detroit.

2. Buccaneers @ Ravens

Anytime you have to go to Baltimore to take on two-time MVP Lamar Jackson and future Hall of Fame running back Derrick Henry, you’re in for a challenge.

Historically, no team has had Tampa Bay’s number like the Ravens. The Bucs haven’t beat Baltimore since 2002, and are 2-6 in the all-time series.

Tampa Bay will have to “Buc” that trend if they hope to pull off one of the toughest road wins of the season.

1. Buccaneers vs. Rams

The Week 17 matchup against the Rams is the hardest game in the Bucs schedule by a wide margin.

The Rams are heavy Super Bowl favorites, and they dominated Tampa Bay 34-7 last season. That was before one of the most aggressive offseasons in recent memory that saw them add Myles Garrett, Aaron Donald,  and Trent McDuffie.

In addition to a loaded defense, Los Angeles boasts one of the NFL’s best offenses headlined by Matthew Stafford, Puka Nacua, and Davante Adams. Calling the plays is Sean McVay, who has outclassed Todd Bowles in their head-to-head battles over the years.

The Bucs are 2-9 in their last 11 games against the Rams, and it’s hard to see that trend changing this season.
