Tush Push survives NFL vote but not the Buccaneers defense

The momentum created behind the long-awaited discussion and "tush push" ruling has finally come to a screeching halt.

The Green Bay Packers' proposal to ban the play made famous by Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles failed to pass, but the Tampa Bay Buccaneers shouldn't have been worried in the first place.

After all, the Bucs have stopped the suddenly-illustrious tush push -- and more than once.

So, unlike reactions from other fan bases, Bucs fans should largely end up being less concerned.

The Buccaneers proved they didn't need the tush bush banned in order to stop it

Last year, Tampa Bay's defense showed out by stuffing the Eagles' tush push attempt not once, but twice. The first came on a fourth down attempt during the regular season.

However, the second blockade stood tall on an Eagles two-point conversion attempt in the NFC's Wild Card Round earlier this year.

While teams like the Packers, along with 21 other supporters of the ban, were hoping to never have to defend this play again, the Bucs were the one team whose confidence should never have wavered.

The Todd Bowles defense, led by that front featuring Vita Vea, has already shown they are more than capable of stopping the Eagles' favorite short-yardage play.

That should come as no surprise, either. The Buccaneers finished last season as the league's no. 4 defense in defending the run. They also allowed the fifth-fewest first down runs in all of football.

Funny enough, the Packers were the NFL's no. 7 rush defense during last year's regular season. It's curious as to why they felt the need to ban this particular play when they were already a top-10 unit in that department.

Oh, well. Green Bay will have to wait it out a little while longer as the play isn't going anywhere as of now.

As for the Bucs, it remains business as usual.
