The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are 0-2 to start the 2026 NFL regular season, and they hit a new low as a franchise by losing 23-19 to the Cleveland Browns, who have a terrible roster and were completely destroyed 34-10 by former Buccaneers offensive coordinator Liam Coen's Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 1.
Juxtaposing these two results against Cleveland really hammers home how bad of a mistake it was for the Glazers to have kept Todd Bowles instead of hiring Coen to be their new offensive coordinator when Baker Mayfield and Coen were clearly clicking on a higher level, whereas Bowles clicks with nobody; he couldn't even get a winning season with Tom Brady at one point, which was literally impossible before Bowles rolled around.
Bowles has been making life miserable for everyone in Tampa since last season, and after being the architect of their collapse in 2025, a frustrated Mike Evans literally left his beloved team for the San Francisco 49ers so as to not have to deal with Bowles coaching him any more. So Bowles has cost the Bucs Liam Coen, Mike Evans, and dignity in the process.
Todd Bowles is ruining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense
The Glazers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers could have fired Todd Bowles this past offseason, and they would have been 100 percent justified in doing so after how poorly the Buccaneers played in the second half of the 2025 season. Tampa literally fired their entire staff besides Bowles, with the Glazers showing a disturbing and unexplainable loyalty to a head coach most known for having a history of absurd mediocrity.
Even though he is a supposed defensive guru, Todd Bowles has made so many defensive stars on the Bucs look awful. Antoine Winfield Jr. and Vita Vea should be among the elite safeties and defensive tackles in the NFL, respectively, but they have been horrendous in the first two weeks of the season with the Bucs giving up 33 points to the Cincinnati Bengals and then somehow making Deshaun Watson look like a competent quarterback.
Winfield Jr. was poor last season, too, hung out to dry by a terrible defensive scheme in which he was left cleaning up messes for everyone else instead of actually making plays. And Vita Vea was victimized in the same way, and the Bucs are now essentially paying him elite money to be a glorified bodyguard who makes zero impact. It's no wonder why two of the Buccaneers biggest stars are totally ghosting when they have a specialist in failure coaching them, and that's all on the Glazers.
