Through his three seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Yaya Diaby has faced the tall task of carrying the team’s pass rush.

Diaby paced the Bucs with 7.5 sacks in his rookie year, and led the team again in 2025 with seven sacks.

Diaby has been more than serviceable, but the failure to complement him with another capable pass rusher has put him in a difficult situation.

But with an emphasis on upgrading the defensive front this offseason, Diaby will have the best supporting cast of his career, which could set the stage for a breakout season.

Tampa Bay made a slew of additions to the defensive front this offseason. They drafted Rueben Bain Jr., and signed pass rusher Al-Quadin Muhammad and defensive tackle A’Shawn Robinson.

They also have David Walker returning from injury, and the team believes he can develop into a game-wrecking pass rusher.

Speaking to reporters after OTAs, Diaby expressed his confidence in the new-look defense.

"How can you block (Rueben) Bain (Jr.), Vita (Vea), A'Shawn (Robinson), me and Calijah (Kancey)?" Diaby said. "You can't do it, so it's going to be super exciting."

Diaby is entering a contract year, so this is undoubtedly the most important season of his career as he seeks a new deal.

Spotrac estimates his value for his next contract to land just above $18 million per year, and the market could inflate even further by next offseason.

"I just want to ball," Diaby said. "I want to be a Buc for my whole career. That's all I can say. But at the same time, that's the least of my worries. I'm just happy to be out here with the guys playing around, having fun and just getting after it."

With opposing offenses having to account for so many disrupters on the Bucs’ defensive front, Diaby has a golden opportunity in front of him.

He’s already been the Bucs’ sack leader in two of his three pro seasons. If he can take the next step in his development and record double-digit sacks for the first time this season, the team will feel great about committing to him for the long-term with a hefty contract extension.
