The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were spoiled for 12 seasons with Mike Evans, one of the most dominant players of his era.
Evans is a surefire Hall of Famer, and happens to be the pinnacle of professionalism and selflessness at the same time.Â
It’s no wonder why he became one of the most iconic players in franchise history, and why the wound of him leaving this offseason won’t seem to heal for Bucs fans.
Now in San Francisco, the 49ers are getting a front-row seat to exactly what makes him such a rare, special player.
San Francisco 49ers are blown away with Mike EvansÂ
The 49ers already boasted a talented roster, recording at least 12 wins in three of the past four seasons. But that hasn’t stopped them from being starstruck by the arrival of Evans.Â
“Mike has been so impressive, and I feel like that’s saying so much because we were expecting so much,” fullback Kyle Juszczyk told NFL Network, via JoeBucsFan.com.Â
“Your expectations are already high, and I feel like he’s already exceeded that. He has been unguardable at practice. Red zone has been an absolute problem. He’s a great teammate. I think everyone has already enjoyed his presence so much. I think he’s going to be an incredible leader for the wide receivers room. It’s hard to imagine a better addition than Mike has been.”
Juszczyk isn’t the first 49ers player to gush about Evans’ performance this offseason.Â
Tight end George Kittle recently said that Evans was “cooking everybody” at practice, while raving about the immediate chemistry he’s built with quarterback Brock Purdy.Â
Evans being the best player on the field is no surprise to Bucs fans. They watched it firsthand for 12 years. But to be on the outside looking in as Evans becomes a leader and fan favorite for another team is jarring.Â
Tampa Bay is doing just fine at the wide receiver position thanks to a stacked room that features Chris Godwin Jr., Emeka Egbuka, Jalen McMillan, and rookie Ted Hurst. The offense should have no problem producing fireworks, despite the loss of Mike Evans.
Still, what he meant to this franchise can’t be overstated, and it’ll take some getting used to watching him score touchdowns in another uniform.Â
