Now that Tampa Bay has given him his desired long-term security and committed to him as their franchise quarterback, Mayfield has his sights set on the one thing still missing from his résumé: a Super Bowl.

Mayfield spoke to reporters Wednesday for the first time since signing his new contract. He was asked if being $165 million richer and finding a team that believes in him would cause the chip on his shoulder to waver at all.
Mayfield made it clear that even with a new contract he’s as motivated as ever.
“I still have so much to prove. This isn’t ’I made it.’… The main goal is still a Super Bowl and I don’t have one of those.”
The area where Mayfield wants to improve the most is consistency, both individually and for the team as a whole. If they’re going to achieve Mayfield’s lofty goals and compete for a Super Bowl, the Buccaneers need to learn how to put together a complete season from start to finish, which they haven’t done in recent years.
“Just being able to finish the season the right way. We’ve had hot starts and lulls in the middle of the year. Being able to put it all together and be consistent. And that’s not just for me, but for our team and as the leader I have to do that. I have to demand that of myself every day before I can demand it of my teammates. Just trying to raise that standard… just be more consistent."
Mayfield understands that signing such a lucrative contract doesn’t mean the job is done — it means the expectations are only increasing. Being the franchise quarterback comes with the responsibility of being the player the team can count on to lead the troops and come through when the stakes are highest.
