They wore the alternate look at least once every season up until 2023, but the uniforms disappeared from the rotation over the last two seasons.
There have been rumblings throughout the offseason that the hiatus would end in 2026, and the team has finally made it official.

The Buccaneers will wear their Color Rush uniforms in Week 15 at home against the Saints.
The announcement comes as a bit of a surprise, but a pleasant one. The initial expectation was that if the uniforms did return for a regular season game, they’d likely be used as a road alternate. Tampa Bay has worn the pewter look on the road multiple times, including against the Broncos in 2020, the Rams in 2021, and the Colts in 2023.
The reaction from fans has been overwhelmingly positive, as Bucs faithful are eager to see the fan-favorite uniforms return, in a home game against a hated NFC South rival nonetheless. It’s a game that could have massive playoff implications if last season is any indication.
The NFC South race went down to the wire in 2025, with the division not being decided until Week 18 and three teams finishing tied for first place. The division got even more competitive this offseason thanks to strong free-agent and draft classes, so the Bucs’ showdown with the Saints could have way more on the line than just cool uniforms.
Buccaneers likely won’t wear orange creamsicle throwbacks in 2026
Tampa Bay has just a 2-4 record when wearing the pewter uniforms. Still, that’s better than their record in the orange creamsicle throwbacks, with the Bucs having lost their last six matchups in the iconic uniforms. Tampa Bay hasn’t won in them since 2009.
The orange creamsicles are unlikely to be worn in 2026 because of an NFL rule that only allows teams to wear four uniforms per season: their traditional home and away sets, plus up to two alternates.
Tampa Bay has now confirmed its two alternate jerseys for the season. The Bucs will wear their 1976 white throwbacks in Week 13 against the Chargers, followed by the pewter uniforms in Week 15 against the Saints.

Unless the NFL loosens its uniform policy, don’t expect to see the Bucco Bruce creamsicles this season.
Still, even at the expense of the orange throwbacks, the return of the pewter uniforms is a welcome change. The all-pewter look remains one of the most popular among the fanbase, making it somewhat puzzling that Tampa Bay went two seasons without wearing it.
Pewter is a colorway synonymous with the Buccaneers, giving the uniforms a unique identity that fans have been clamoring to see again.
There’s always excitement in Tampa Bay when New Orleans comes to town, and the Bucs made a smart choice by bringing back the pewter uniforms for this particular matchup. Now, fans will have even more reason to circle Week 15 on their calendars.
