Predicting when Buccaneers will wear fan-favorite pewter Color Rush uniforms

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will officially bring back their pewter Color Rush uniforms in 2026 after a two-year hiatus, according to Pewter Report. 

It’s long been known that the uniforms would return in some capacity in 2026, but it remained a mystery whether they’d be worn in the preseason or featured in a regular-season game. 

Now that it’s confirmed Tampa Bay will sport the alternates during the regular season, it’s time to explore when exactly fans could expect to see the uniforms back on the field.  

When will the Buccaneers wear their pewter uniforms in 2026?

Pewter Report’s Scott Reynolds reported earlier this offseason that if the pewter uniforms return for the regular season, they’ll be used as a road alternate. 

That eliminates Tampa Bay’s nine home games, and from there, several road games could feasibly be eliminated. 

The Buccaneers are unlikely to wear their pewter uniforms on the road against the Cincinnati Bengals, Carolina Panthers, Chicago Bears, Baltimore Ravens, Atlanta Falcons, or New Orleans Saints.

All of these teams sport dark primary home uniforms, and the league typically avoids dark-on-dark uniform matchups. 

Now, it’s very possible that these teams could wear alternates of their own, or choose to wear white at home, but in all likelihood, they’re eliminated from consideration. 

That leaves just two remaining target games for the Buccaneers to bring back their Color Rush uniforms.

Buccaneers could wear pewter Color Rush uniforms against Cowboys or Lions 

Tampa Bay will travel to Dallas to take on the Cowboys in Week 5 on Thursday Night Football. This game checks all the boxes, as Dallas famously opts to wear white uniforms, even at home.

The fact that this is a prime-time matchup in front of a national audience provides even more reason for the Bucs to shake things up with an alternate look. 

The other option comes in Week 11 against the Detroit Lions. Detroit’s “Honolulu Blue” home uniforms would allow for a rare color-on-color matchup, similar to when the Bucs previously sported the pewter digs against the Denver Broncos, who wore orange. 

This is far from a perfect science, and the teams eliminated from the equation earlier could easily flip the script by wearing alternate uniforms or choosing white at home. 

The Bengals, for example, could wear orange in Week 1, while the Panthers could break out their “process blue” alternates and re-enter consideration.

Conversely, the Lions could opt to wear their black alternates and prevent Tampa Bay from wearing pewter in Detroit. 

But on paper, the Dallas Cowboys in Week 5 and the Detroit Lions in Week 11 seem like the most logical options for the Buccaneers to finally bring back their fan-favorite pewter uniforms.
