Former Buccaneers WR Sterling Shepard worked out with Ravens

Sterling Shepard wasn’t a primary target with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but he made the most of his opportunities.

His chemistry with Baker Mayfield, dating back to their days as teammates — and roommates — at Oklahoma, was evident in Tampa Bay. 

In two seasons with the Bucs, Shepard caught 71 passes for 705 yards and two touchdowns. His lone touchdown in 2025 was a clutch fourth-quarter score against the Seahawks that tied the game at 35. 

Whenever Mayfield looked his way, Shepard proved to be a reliable target.

Shepard was also a valuable veteran presence in the locker room, and was a key mentor for rookie Tez Johnson. 

But Shepard was pushed out of Tampa Bay this offseason. With Chris Godwin Jr., Emeka Egbuka, Jalen McMillan, Tez Johnson, and a rookie Ted Hurst ahead of him, Shepard would be a long-shot for a roster spot. At best, he’d be stashed on the practice squad in case an injury required his duties.

So with no role available for him in Tampa Bay, Shepard appears to have zeroed in on his newest opportunity.

NFL insider Ari Meirov reported that the Ravens hosted Shepard for a workout on Friday. No signing has happened yet, but Shepard is clearly on Baltimore’s radar.

The Ravens could use his veteran leadership after drafting two receivers — Elijah Sarratt and Ja’Kobi Lane. Along with those rookies, Shepard would be joining Zay Flowers, Rashod Bateman and Devontez Walker in the wide receiver room.

Another fun wrinkle is that he’d be reuniting with his college teammate, tight end Mark Andrews.

Baltimore doesn’t have much proven depth behind their top pass catchers, giving Shepard a much better chance to carve out a role than he had in Tampa Bay. 

If the Ravens ultimately sign Shepard, Bucs fans will be rooting for him from afar — except for when Tampa Bay travels to Baltimore in Week 14.
